Diego is a gentoo dev, and quite knowledgeable in the ways of building
software.  In particular, he has experience-in-breadth -- he's
probably built every open-source project out there at least once :)

I wonder if this guide could usefully be incorporated into the
autoconf archive's documentation?  Or at least referenced from there?

If there's interest, I'll contact Diego.
