Details:

SASL is a alternative way to authenticate to nickserv on some servers and as
far as i can tell, it's A LOT more secure then /msg nickserv identify.
It's not extremely widely used yet, but it will be coming to Freenode in
about 6 months and it will be on the second most popular ircd in about 3
months.
