Why are there such differences between two OS/X environments? Odd.

Anyway, compiling in that directory should not be done. The files
needed from MPI are hooked into the main
Makefile; the build never recurses into MPI to do a "make" there.

We don't use the mpprime.c file, nor do we make a libmpi.a.

I should add a patch to the MPI patches which removes the MPI Makefile.
