Which analyzer are you using for your default field, see the <sdx:fieldList> 
element in your application.xconf? Is it storing values, ie, the attribute 
"brief= true | false"? Are these valid values after passing through the 
respective analyzer? Is there anything in your sdx/WEB-INF/logs/sdxError.log?
