I assumed you logged in as "root".
Due to the way the new server is setup, the files are actually on the
old servers and are NFS-mounted from the previous server
'olddownload.sv.gnu.org' (with "root_squash" I believe).

As a temporary work-around,
can you try to login to olddownload.sv.gnu.org ,
and edit the file directly ?
That should work, but if not - please let us know.
