But in my case, this happened after 1 hour.  If the branch command
succeeded to finish before that mark, everything was dandy.  So I'm
not sure it's the same problem.

Tim, can you show a similar failure log from "bzr pull"?  Your excerpt
from .bzr.log is for "bzr branch" command, so I wonder if "bzr pull"
into an already existing branch (with -Dhpss) shows the same kind of
trace.  I hope you still have the branch into which you were pulling
before this started happening.
