Code for "focus follows mouse" is already there, see
http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/ratpoison.git/tree/contrib/sloppy.c

Besides that I suspect there are quite some external implementations
out there. I at least wrote two, first one using nawm, then one using
xdotool. But unrat aka sloppy.c works fine for me. It's my currently
preferred implementation.
