Shorthand -net options are obsolete, it's better to use -device/-netdev options - http://wiki.qemu.org/Documentation/Networking#The_legacy_-net_option.

You can find available NIC models by running
qemu-system-x86_64 -net nic,model=help

Virtio drivers offer better performance. For Windows guests you can find them here: http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/WindowsGuestDrivers/Download_Drivers

Also, can I merger the following options?

-netdev user,id=network0 -device rtl8139,netdev=network0
and
-net user,smb=/home/mahmood -net nic,model=virtio
