build failure on master: missing u8_strncat, u8_strlen

I get the following building current master (commit 1c740eb1b):

    src/.libs/libpspp.so: undefined reference to `u8_strncat'
    src/.libs/libpspp-core.so: undefined reference to `u8_strlen'
    collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
    make[2]: *** [src/ui/terminal/pspp] Error 1
    make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/blp/pspp/master/_build'
    make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/blp/pspp/master/_build'
    make: *** [all] Error 2
