     Arbitrary file names should be fine, as long as you enclose them
     in single or double quotes.  

Oops.  I was misinterpreting error messages. 

In fact I was confused because the info page for SAVE talks about the
FILE subcommand whereas it should read OUTFILE.

The page for XSAVE also mentions the FILE subcommand presumably this
should also read OUTFILE ??
