If it is D1 you can do with out it as this diode is used for charging 
the capacitor which means that you will only notice  a slower  3d fix 
acquisition.
If it is D2 you need to replace it as it is used for resetting the GPS.
In any case you can solder a 1N5819 (full size) Schottky diode with a 
little effort if you don't have a similar spare diode.
