It should be placed in the makefile section of your xml airframe file:
ap.CFLAGS += ADC_CHANNEL_GENERIC_NB_SAMPLES=16

are you sure to compile the right target (ap) ?

I knew I need to define ADC_CHANNEL_GENERIC_NB_SAMPLES=16 ,but where in
the xml files?I tried many places but couldn't have it done.
