Ah, I hoped it could be something else, but still, it seems to me the
most probable cause anyway.
Is there a possibility to verify it is a hardware failure before I start
exchanging the chip?

I don't think so, I use a non-SVN airframe file and did not change it
when the UART stopped working. The configuration did work before.
