Such variables can be defined in your airframe configuration file 
(funjet1.xml for ex.). In the "makefile" section (usually the last one) 
you can add:

ap.CFLAGS += -DTODD_STUFF
sim.CFLAGS += -DTODD_STUFF

then, you can add your own C code with
#define TODD_STUFF
 //your stuff
#endif
