Interesting.  I use the same format.  background is #555753 that being
r=85  g=87  and b=83  with hue at 90, saturation at 5 and value at 34.

The real interesting part, is that I have no problems with the colors of
the previous posts.  They all show up just like I programed them.  I did
change them to make them show up brighter against the dark gray background.

I had so much trouble with the early dep hell, that I went to the launchpad pan 
ppa
and installed 0.139 (precise)-0.  From my reading, it was built without GKR and 
with
GTK-4.  I have had no problems, other than some of unsubscribed groups show in
white and some in black.  All the subscriber groups do show White.
