Doing a grep for '[[:space:]]_close' under /usr/include,
I can find only one hit here which is in
/usr/include/X11/Xw32defs.h
and is def’d as
> #  define close          _close
and is installed by Apple’s X11 / XQuartz projects.

So AFAIAC I kinda guessed ‘right’, I suppose.
