Charles,

You seem to have tried all but the obvious :-)

libstdc++

(no -devel)

address@hidden root]# rpm -ql libstdc++-2.96-98
/usr/lib/libstdc++-3-libc6.2-2-2.10.0.so
/usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3

address@hidden root]# rpm -ql libstdc++3-3.0.4-1
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.3
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.3.0.4

address@hidden root]# rpm -ql compat-libstdc++-6.2-2.9.0.16
/usr/lib/libg++.so.2.7.2.8
/usr/lib/libstdc++-2-libc6.1-1-2.9.0.so
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.2.7.2.8
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.2.8.0
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.2.9.dummy

Actually, I guess it depends on what g++ the libspell package was built
with. This would be why I never got into c++ :-)
