Add "auth,authpriv.* /var/log/auth.log" to syslog.conf and

restartit.

Unfortunately, the log you provided is just a trace of

getent call. I need the trace for the call which failed.

(the mysql_fetch_row failure is normalm and the "x" is

normal too). Can you reboot without mysql in your

nsswitch.conf and then add it and launch an operation which

fails ? the reference to the file in /tmp seems to indicate

that this is MySQL related. Indeed, this file is the UNIX

socket used to communicate with the MySLQ server ...

I`m sorry, I dont know much about syslog. Can you tell me which line i 

have to insert in syslog.conf to redirect the log facility? I have tried: 

log.* /var/log/testlog and 

syslog.* /var/log/testlog 

in addition to the defaults, but i don't get any logs...
