Cool, I just checked out the code and I'll look at it more later.
I just briefly looked though configure.ac and noticed this.
You can use
AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE($PACKAGE_NAME, $PACKAGE_VERSION, $PACKAGE_BUGREPORT)
to prevent the duplicated stuff in configure.ac :)
