Hello, Thomas Petazzoni wrote:
Question: Is there a comparison between the time it takes to run osm2pgsql with and without jobs being rendered at the same time?We haven't done measurements of this.
Well, then I'm not sure I understood the question. Anyway, in the beginning, while the server was not really crunching the maps continuously as it is now, we had generally around 10h osm2pgsql daily diff update times (see http://news.maposmatic.org/?p=37#more-37). Now it takes around 16h (940mn yesterday) with django and map renderings loading the machine and the DB. For the impact on the rendering times, see Thomas link:
Likewise, how long does a job take when run at the same time as the update process, and how long does it take without?See results at http://news.maposmatic.org/?p=58
All in all, that's roughly 60% penalty on both sides. We'll hit a major critical show-stopper when osm2pgsql reaches 24h to complete. Any bet on /when/ it /will/ happen ? :) Any offer for a higher-end hosting ? :)
