Yes, 1.8.6/ache is still installed in the system I access but I use my
"personal" ncurses:
setenv CPPFLAGS "-I$HOME/ncurses/include"
setenv LIBS "-L$HOME/ncurses/lib"
And configure recognizes it:
checking for screen type... ncurses
checking for ncurses header file... predefined
checking for ncurses version... 5.1.20000826
checking for initscr in -lncurses... yes
checking if we can link ncurses without -lmytinfo ... yes
checking for ncurses version... (cached) 5.1.20000826
checking for obsolete/broken version of ncurses... no
Anyway, you know that that is not the problem. You know it's something broken
in dev.8. And it's not "hardcoded in slang". :-)
