Follow-up Comment #3:

Ok, so after testing, I see I need more input as to your setup.

How come netif->ip6_addr[0] is and address that matches the if clause you
added? If I call ip6_select_source_address() right after startup, it is
invalid; later when it is valid, it is set to a real address (i.e. not
any/unspecified).
