Thanks for the update, I'm not very familiar with the PPP code and didn't
realize it originated as 3rd party code (as indicated by Simon).

I'm on board with constraining the open group/posix types to the sockets layer
and the current discussion remains on how to implement the feature in a way
that doesn't duplicate complex code but also doesn't cause worse performance
in the single vector (data pointer) write case.
