Follow-up Comment #2:

Fix in CVS doesn't work for me, but I can't find the reason why it fails.

Therefore I introduced a workaround option MEM_LIBC_MALLOC. Set to 1 if you
choose to use you local libc malloc() instead.

I'll keep this bug open for your input (at lowered severity).
