Hi Leland,

I have been away and have only just seen your reply.

I'm glad to see that there is some common feeling that Linphone needs to do more to promote itself, if it is to become better known and used by more people.

We know that the Linphone developers do monitor this list (and are very helpful to people who ask technical questions), so I don't understand why there has been no response from Linphone about this idea?

*If Linphone / Belledonne Communications don't have the time to set up Facebook, Twitter (etc) accounts for Linphone themselves, would they have any objections to members of the community doing it independently?*

I'm afraid that I don't understand why it seems that the Linphone developers are working really hard to make Linphone a good and very multi-platform product, but don't really seem to be spending very much time to actually promote it or to seek donations to assist with development costs, etc? If people don't know about Linphone, then they won't have any reason to try it out or encourage their friends and contacts to use it either..

David.

I think this is a great idea, too. Propellerhead Software uses social
media exclusively for advertising. They cut their advertising revenue to
ZERO!

Linphone may not have an advertising budget, but all they need to do is
set up the page and get the developers involved to answer questions.
Could be a huge benefit.

I say we all just keep "bumping" this thread until they "get-her-done"!
Then again, should the developers be the ones to set it up, or the
marketing people. (I.e., be there any.)

Bottom line: Great idea!

I've seen a lot of grumbling amongst people on Facebook recently (I
know, but when almost all of your friends have been assimilated, you
eventually realise what else can you do yourself..) about concerns
that Facebook is trying to move people over from the Facebook
Messenger web service to the Facebook Messenger app, coupled with
concerns about whether the app might be using the microphone to
    listen in at all times:____

It seems that as concerns about personal privacy and the risks of
ad-funded internet services are now finally starting to become
better known, would Linphone not be in a potentially good position
to gain some good publicity for itself as a multi-platform, and open
alternative to proprietary messaging/videocall applications? If it
was better known, and better used, I'm sure you could also see an
increase in donations towards development as well.____

    __ __

At present, Linphone doesn't have a formal presence on Facebook,
would someone at Linphone be able to spend even a small amount of
time managing a Linphone Facebook page occasionally to help better
publicise its existence? (Likewise Twitter: I don't do Twitter
myself (there's a limit to how much time I can waste on the
internet!), but the fact is that many people do.)____

It would be really great to see open and secure solutions become
more popular, but half the battle in doing so is just to let people
    know that you even exist!____
