My SIP provider located in Italy supports the following 3 codecs:
* G.729
* iLBC
* GSM
None of them is installed with Linphone 3.6.1 (on my Ubuntu 14.04.3
LTS box). Also, none of the 3 is provided pre-packaged for
installation on Ubuntu 14.04.
I figured all of them are either governed by a patent or some other
license incompatible with Debian licensing. [1]
Does that mean I have to download the sources from [2] (and other
sources that are requirements), or is there some PPA or any other
resource that I can install one of those codecs from? The bc729 source
seems to be the best choice for private, free use. Interestingly, I
didn't find any information about the GSM codec.

Here are the codecs installed with Linphone 3.6.1 on Ubuntu by default:
Enabled:
- opus (48 kHz)
- speex (16 kHz)
- speex (8 kHz)
- PCMU (8 kHz)
- PCMA (8 kHz)
Disabled:
- AAL2-G726-40/ -32/ -24/ -16 (all 8 kHz)
- G726-40 (8 kHz)
- speex (32 kHz)
- G726-32/ -24/ -16 (all 8 kHz)
- L16 (44.1 kHz; two flavors)
- G722 (8 kHz)
Any hints or recommendation on how to get all 3 or at least one of the
codecs I need?
Peter
