Hi, you don't need to compile nothing to change your keyboard layout.
There differente ways to do it, but I think the command:
$ xkb de & setxkbmap de; xset -r 66
Can do the job...
To make it permanent, go to file /etc/X11/xorg.conf and put this line:
Option "XkbLayout" "de"
--mutus
