Are you sure the user you're connecting as has a shell setup?
I.e. normally your shell is /bin/bash or /bin/sh or /bin/nologin

Perhaps something went wrong there and the sftp server doesn't setup a proper shell so winscp has nothing to go on. It never gets the usr/pwd prompt cycle...

just a thought,
Chris.

Did you enable the sftp subsystem inside your /etc/ssh/sshd_config?
I think I had the same thing and realized I had turned the subsystem off. :)

hi i use the turtorial on the jailkit site

http://olivier.sessink.nl/jailkit/howtos_sftp_scp_only.html

also make the fix inside the /etc/ld.so.conf

i make the jail inside /srv/sftpjail

in /etc/sftpjail/etc/jailkit/jk_
lsh.ini

# i think the following should work for centos
[myuser]
paths= /usr/bin, /usr/libexec/openssh
executables= /usr/bin/scp, /usr/libexec/openssh/sftp-server

when i am trying to connect by sftp i get an error:
"   Fatal: unable to initialise SFTP on server: could not connect"

greetings gigo
