Hi,
We are using tar (with --format=posix) to write data to tape. We use the -cvR option to output the block offsets while writing, which we parse and store in a database (so we can fast seek to files)
When non-ascii characters are used in the filename we observe that the characters are output in octal (escaped by a "\"). Can we rely on this assumption being correct?
Example:
tar -cv -b512 -R -f sample.tar test-emoji.mxf
stdoutblock 0: test-emoji\360\237\231\217.mxf
