RCS help needed

Hi,

I am getting the following error while doing RCS
checkins.

ci error: /var/tmp/T2L3a4af: No such file or directory
ci aborted

This happens randomly, and each time it is a different
T2* file ofcourse.
/var/tmp is my $TMPDIR
My command is typically 
ci -mMSG -t-MSG -f -wUSER -dTIME BUFFER RCSFILE

I am not working under /var/tmp or any temp directory.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
