Hi,
This is what I do for the NT version of GNU RCS. To check in a binary file, you have to do the following:
1) Initialize the archive file by typing rcs -i -kb filename
2) Check in the file by typing ci -u filename
3) You can then use RCS commands normally.
See the help for co -kb for more info.

Apologies - this is from the HP-UX rcs man page, which is not gnu-rcs,
which is of course what we are meant to be discussing here :)
