(GRUB) 2.00~beta4 Install Failure

# grub-install -v:

# grub-install /dev/md0
Path `/boot/grub' is not readable by GRUB on boot. Installation is 
impossible. Aborting.
# grub-install /dev/sda
Path `/boot/grub' is not readable by GRUB on boot. Installation is 
impossible. Aborting.

Still not having any fun at all with this. I thought it might be that I 
had not allowed enough free space at beginning of disks. So I deleted & 
recreated disk partitions leaving first 1MB on each disk free. It not work.

Then tried latest grub version (as above). It not work.

I must be missing something. But I can't see what that is.

Trying to copy an existing system onto a new md array. But can't get the
system to boot off the new disks. Ubuntu Natty (11.04).

Booting off Kubuntu CD, apt-get install mdadm, then:

> sudo -i
> mdadm --assemble /dev/md0 /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1
> mdadm --assemble /dev/md1 /dev/sda5 /dev/sdb5
> mdadm --assemble /dev/md2 /dev/sda6 /dev/sdb6
> mdadm --assemble /dev/md3 /dev/sda7 /dev/sdb7
> mkdir /md0
> mount /dev/md0 /md0
> mount /dev/md1 /md0/var
> mount /dev/md3 /md0/home
> mount -o bind  dev  /md0/dev
> mount -t proc  none /md0/proc
> mount -t sysfs none /md0/sys
> chroot /md0

Then try to reinstall grub

#aptitude reinstall grub-pc :

grub-install and grub-setup don't seem to help either.

I don't know how to proceed further with this.
