This is the key point, in my opinion.

Those who wanted to use this package were very welcome to do something
about it. And they are still welcome to contribute a working package.
They will even receive help and advice on IRC and the mailing lists :)
But they must lead the effort.

This whole conversation seems contrived because, clearly, nobody was
using jrnl in Guix, since it was broken for 4(!) years.

Guix is a distro for using programs. Not a graveyard, a junkyard, or a
collection of historical artifacts.
