The process could be considered "free form".
Basically, you can try to reconfigure your system on core-updates. It
will fail, many build failures will have to be fixed, and eventually it
will work.
Then I would run the Guix test suite and the system tests, and also
try to make use of QA.
It's likely that different architectures will have some specific
problems to be fixed.
