As far as I know, running the build of gpsd did that.
I used "scons --config=force && scons install".
Is /usr/local/lib in your library search path?
I don't know how to find that out.

It is the OS that matters, it is the distro. Does your distro prefer
/usr/local/lib64?
No, there's no lib64

Seems that sudo ldconfig fixed the problem. Once again my lack of Linux
knowledge is to blame!
