Wheezy used sysv by default.  The change occurred during the release of
Jessie where systemd became the default.  It can be replaced however
some package maintainers have chosen to require systemd exclusively as a
prerequisite for their packages so removing systemd can potentially
break an installation.

I'm at this moment installing Raspian Jessie on a brand new Pi so we'll
see how the removal of systemd goes.
