No, it wouldn't be impossible. A suitable userland hotplug script would
be perfectly capable of looking for a local file that satisfies the
request.
It seems impossible to me. Could you explain how it could do this?
As I understand it, the script would receive a only number.
This number would be unpredictably different each time,
for the same firmware. How could that program possibly
determine which firmware file corresponds to the request?
