smsd-file and line feeds

Running smsd with the file module it appears to ignore line feeds in the
spool file for outgoing sms's.

In the example below only the second line would be sent.

How can you use line feeds?

e.g.

0409555555
This is a test
This is a new line.
This is a second new line.
