6310i and sendsms

Hi,

I'm having problems trying to send SMS messages using a Nokia 6310i and 
dlr3p cable.
I get:

- in .gnokiirc:
     model=6510 (6310 gives the same result)
     connection=dlr3p
- the OS is Redhat 9
- gnokii version 0.5.5 compiled from source
- I'm trying all of this as root.
- manually sending an sms to the same number works.
- some other gnokii commands work:
  --identify gives me
        IMEI         : 351457202770027
        Manufacturer : Nokia
        Model        : NPL-1
        Revision     : V 5.22
  --getsmsc works

Does anyone have an idea of what I could be doing wrong?
