I just corrected the permissions of gnokii executables
files to 755, so that anyone can execute gnokii, even
if he does not belong to the gnokii group.

(modification will be included in 0.5.6, and is now
available in my RedHat 9 gnokii packages from 
http://kalou.net/unix/gnokii)

To investigate on your problem with 0.5.5 version,
you should probably download the -debug version,
which gives information about what the problem is,
and sent it on the list so that experts can see :)
