it maybe you need to delete the gm2 directory, on my machine I can:

$ cvs -z3 -d:pserver:address@hidden:/sources/gm2 checkout -r 
gcc_4_1_2_gm2_1_0_4_0 gm2 ; head gm2/ChangeLog
