[Gm2] recent updates to the repository

Hi,

I've just committed a number of changes to gm2 CVS.
In particular:

 + the C preprocessor can now be invoked -Wcpp
 + improvements in error messages
 + a better parser is in place with error recovery
      (some missing tokens are now inserted)
 + ./configure scripts are now used with Makefile.in
   in lower level directories

It successfully builds with gcc-20001204 which I'll
tar up and place on the home page.
