cry for help, FreeType GSoC 2023 Aspirant

Greetings to all.

I am eager to submit an application for the FreeType GSoC in 2023. Since I'm new to this, it would be wonderful if someone could help me get started.

Of course, I have these doubts, as every other aspirant does. 
- What are the best practises to employ?
- How do you write a solid proposal?
- How can you contact your mentor before submitting the final proposal?
- The list is endless..

Please give me a push to get going.
