As Salzmann says in the report, this is better done at the cairo level, 
as it would benefit all applications that use it for drawing. I heard 
that cairo is more or less in maintenance mode and the request for 
better blending has been sitting in their bug tracker for a few years: 
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28549. Antti S. Lankila 
wrote a patch that works with a hack, but only with software rendering. 
So it's not ready for inclusion.

So basically, *someone* needs to do the work for cairo and everything so 
that it works with acceleration. I have no idea how much work that is.
