Hmm, it looks like it only works with hinting (autohinter) switched on.
But then cff gets disabled for OpenType fonts...
I like my fonts unhinted and would like to use OpenType fonts with cff
and TrueType fonts with the new stem-darkening at the same time.

I've attached four examples with/without light/dark using the Ubuntu
font.
