I cannot see an obvious equivalent in freetype 2's for freetype 1's ftmetric -
It is probably relatively easy to add to say, ftgrid? I am sure if it is indeed
not in freetype 2's demos, it is mostly because it is normally a rather
uninteresting piece of information.

- according to freetype 1's ftmetric,
libs/freetype/freetype-1.5/test/ftmetric -i 100 10 some.font.ttf
There are 1 fonts in this collection.
Instance metrics: ppemX 10, ppemY 10
Outline's metrics: xMin 0, xMax 5, yMin -1, yMax 5, advance width 638
The font has a rather large advance width (just under 64x ppem), not a
negative one, so there is an overflow within ttf2tfm.
- there isn't a convenient equivalent to freetype 1's ftmetric in freetype 2,
AFAIC.
