If you say `-w G', this means that you get the smooth algorithm for
gray and DW ClearType, and strong for GDI ClearType, at least in
theory.

So all three images are using DW ClearType? Then the logic in the
font is not working correctly, since `-w G' and `-w g' should give the
same (smooth) results, and `-w D' should show the strong
rendering. :-(
