Okay - but I suggest that we need (or is there already?) a macro to prevent
compilation of these large tables, which are about 60K in size, when they
are not needed.

This is not correct. For example, ft_standard_glyph_names is used in
ps_get_macintosh_name which is not within the scope of the
abovementioned macro.
