From: Werner LEMBERG
Subject: [ft-devel] FreeType version 2.3.2 released.
Date: Fri, 09 Mar 2007 20:25:19 +0100 (CET)

FreeType 2.3.2 has been released.

It is available from

    http://savannah.nongnu.org/download/freetype/

or

    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=3157

The latter site also holds older versions of the FreeType library.

See below for the relevant snippet from the CHANGES file; users of
version 2.3.1 should upgrade.

Enjoy!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

FreeType 2 is a software font engine that is designed to be small,
efficient, highly customizable, and portable while capable of
producing high-quality output (glyph images) of most vector and bitmap
font formats.

Note that FreeType 2 is a font service and doesn't provide APIs to
perform higher-level features, like text layout or graphics processing
(e.g., colored text rendering, `hollowing', etc.). However, it
greatly simplifies these tasks by providing a simple, easy to use, and
uniform interface to access the content of font files.

FreeType 2 is released under two open-source licenses: our own
BSD-like FreeType License and the GPL. It can thus be used by any
kind of projects, be they proprietary or not.

CHANGES BETWEEN 2.3.2 and 2.3.1

  I. IMPORTANT BUG FIXES

    - FreeType returned incorrect kerning information from TrueType
fonts when the bytecode interpreter was enabled. This happened
due to a typo introduced in version 2.3.0.

    - Negative kerning values from PFM files are now reported
correctly (they were read as 16-bit unsigned values from the
      file).

    - Fixed a small memory leak when `FT_Init_FreeType' failed for
      some reason.

    - The Postscript hinter placed and sized very thin and ghost stems
      incorrectly.

    - The TrueType bytecode interpreter has been fixed to get rid of
most of the rare differences seen in comparison to the Windows
      font loader.

  II. IMPORTANT CHANGES

    - The auto-hinter now better deals with serifs and corner cases
(e.g., glyph '9' in Arial at 9pt, 96dpi). It also improves
spacing adjustments and doesn't change widths for non-spacing
      glyphs.

    - Many Mac-specific functions are deprecated (but still
available); modern replacements have been provided for them.
See the documentation in file `ftmac.h'.
