Honestly, this looks like a bug.  The main reason for my assumption is that
the glyph of digit `1' doesn't become smaller while the others do, which
looks very ugly to me.

Maybe David's attempts to fix other fonts have introduced this regression.
In case nothing happens in the near future -- David is normally overloaded
with family and work -- please remind him from time to time to look at this
issue.

And please create a FreeType bug report also!
